What the Leaves Know

Be still. Listen.
Let the leaves speak.

These brilliant yellow and gold leaves
Speak of letting go.
Knowing when it’s time to let the wind carry you away.

They speak of the soft blanket of sparkly white that’s coming.
A sparkle that invites a return to the earth.
The sparkly snow speaks of the quiet before the beginning.

Before too long, the white world will yield
To the fresh brilliant green of new buds.
Buds that tell of hope and longing.
The longing of life for life.
The hope of new beginnings.

That new green will ripen into the rich dark hues of summer.
These richly green leaves speak of finitude.
They know that release is not far away.
They say TODAY.
Do what you’re here to do.
Do it NOW.
Soon we will be carried away.

Be still. Listen.
The leaves are speaking.
The frogs are singing you home.
